In response to machine builder recommendations, the -CDS option SmartMotor upgrade provides users the option of employing CAN communications through the D-Sub connector on the top of the motor instead of through the five-pin connector on the back of the motor. Through a small change to the circuitry, this new option decreases the space required when integrating the motor into industrial machinery. It opens the door to vertical axis applications that would benefit from this technology by allowing for an integrated brake while using CAN. It makes the motion control system more efficient and increases simplicity for any custom cable assembly needed and reduces the cable costs. The motors are advanced, programmable motion controllers with an integrated servo motor, drive, amplifier and encoder inside one package. Each can be a slave or a master to any other, with the ability to link over 100 systems together over one CAN bus.
