Honeywell Signs Wireless Agreement

Adaptive Instruments Corp., a Hudson, Mass.-based supplier of industrial wireless communications protocols and tether-free Wireless Smart Process Instrumentation systems under the Accutech label (www.savewithaccutech.com), announced recently that it has extended its private label supply relationship with Honeywell Field Solutions by entering into a manufacturing license agreement with Honeywell.

According to the announcement, the two companies have entered into this agreement to achieve three major objectives: support the Honeywell OneWireless initiative; increase the wireless instrument manufacturing capacity in support of strong wireless market acceptance and; further the objective of establishing an effective standard for Industrial Wireless platforms.

The Honeywell OneWireless strategy involves use of multi-radio, multi-port wireless access points that can support multiple industrial protocols and applications simultaneously. The OneWireless initiative was unveiled by Honeywell Process Solutions (http://hpsweb.honeywell.com), Phoenix , at the Honeywell User Group Americas Symposium in June.

The Adaptive/Honeywell agreement includes provisions to share Adaptive’s design and manufacturing know-how with Honeywell for its current XYR 5000 platform, as well as establishing development initiatives for new wireless instrumentation.

The agreement was completed in May, and joint project teams have been formed to address both the transfer of the Adaptive Instruments manufacturing process information for the Honeywell XYR series wireless products, as well as initiate development of new wireless instruments that will be offered by Honeywell and Accutech/Adaptive Instruments.

Honeywell is expected to begin manufacturing XYR 5000 instruments under the agreement late this year. Launch of the first wireless sensor product resulting from the agreement will come in the same timeframe.
