Panasonic is proud to announce that its Grid-EYE Infrared Array AMG8833 Sensor is the key device enabling the core detection function of the 2017 AARP Innovation Champion Award Grand Prize-winning monitoring service developed by HomeEXCEPT, Inc.
“Panasonic continues to develop smarter sensor technology to enable more advanced Connected Solutions,” said Jeff Howell, President Panasonic Industrial Devices Sales Company of America, a division of Panasonic Corporation of North America. “We are pleased that HomeEXCEPT recognized and utilized Panasonic’s Grid-EYE capabilities to provide the best thermal sensor technology to build into their award-winning service.”
The Panasonic Grid-EYE is an 8x8 (64) pixel Infrared Array Sensor that offers digital output (I2C) for thermal presence, direction and temperature values using MEMS Thermopile technology. Grid-EYE’s compact SMD design features a built-in lens with 0.3mm focal height for a wide variety of applications.
“The Grid-EYE Sensor is appealing to design engineers for its very small size and surface mount capability, which provides a lot of design flexibility,” said Eric Johnsrud, Resistors and Sensors Product Specialist, Panasonic Industrial Devices. “The Grid-EYE AMG8833 technology also offers a unique ‘always looking’ approach so it is constantly feeding thermal data back to the system and at all times, which allows detecting where an object is, what direction it is moving, and how fast it is moving.”
“Our system was given a technology boost from Panasonic’s Grid-EYE Sensor,” said John Robertson, Founder & CEO of HomeEXCEPT, Inc., based in Halifax, Canada. “We wanted to create a service for the caregiving community that was easy to install and was not a camera. Panasonic’s Grid-EYE Sensor was fresh to market with the right technology to make it the perfect fit for our application.”
The AARP Innovation Champion Awards recognizes leaders in “Ageless Innovation,” and seeks to raise awareness of the most innovative products and services in caregiving, increase the usage of these offerings, and improve quality of life for anyone who may benefit from them.
