ABB today announced an expanded wireless communication networks portfolio that meets the needs of oil and gas companies that require high reliability, security and bandwidth for the rapidly evolving data needs of modern digital oil and gas fields in today’s era of Internet of Things, Services and People (IoTSP).

The wireless solution from ABB includes the TropOS, MicrOS, TeleOS and ArcheOS product lines, all managed by the SuprOS communication network management system. SuprOS provides network-wide visualization tools for fault, configuration and performance management from a single console. It can manage thousands of communication network devices.
“Our new wireless products and software modernize oil and gas automation, improve oil and gas field economics and help customers achieve operational targets,” said Chris Rittler, responsible for the ABB wireless portfolio, within the Grid Automation business unit, in the company’s Power Grids division.
The new products and software increase reliability and manageability while reducing product and installation costs via functional integration with for example the TropOS 2410 broadband mesh router and the TropOS 6430-T. Network security and availability is also enhanced through detection and notification of DoS (Denial-of-Service) attacks and jamming, plus failed login control, which is supported in TropOS Mesh OS 8.5, the TropOS broadband mesh router operating software, and the SuprOS 8.5 communication network management system (NMS).
